Residents are asked to beware of a phone scam where a caller pretends to be a representative from Alliant Energy.
The Fairfield Police Department issued a news release Friday concerning reports it had received about the scam. The caller states they are with the utility, and that the victim is behind on their utility payment. The scammer threatens to shut off the victim?s utilities if payment is not made immediately.
The news release indicated that Alliant Energy is aware of the scam, and has provided information to the Fairfield Police Department. Alliant suggests that if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Alliant, do not give the caller any financial information.
