Members of American Legion Auxiliary No. 47 held their bimonthly meeting at the VFW Hall recently, opened by President Linda Hendricks with Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Auxiliary Preamble.


Thanks you?s were read from Mary Andersen, local member who is State Girls State chairwoman, for a donation to assist with expenses at Girls State held in June, and from Mary Littrell for the bimonthly donation for veterans needs at VA Hospital in Iowa City.


Shirley Kitch, treasurer, reported payment for a portion of The Fairfield Ledger Memorial Day centerfold, and $60 received from The Arc that placed two quilted patriotic lap robes on its silent auction during the 2018 Greater Jefferson County Fair. The lap robes had been donated to the auxiliary by Kathy Kitch of Dubuque.


Darlene Vorhies reported successful Poppy Day proceeds of $2,178.74.


Wes Edwards indicated that Dan Callahan, VFW commander, had major bypass heart surgery, and is currently at Washington County Hospital. A card will be sent from the auxiliary.


Beginning in August, The Wall That Heals committee will meet at the VFW weekly at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through the Sept. 13-16 hosting of The Wall at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.


The next auxiliary meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19.
