Nobody has given up on the 10-11 Trojan softball team, in fact, they?ve won four in a row and eight of 11.
That being said, even though their 0-4 start came against the best team in the state in Davenport Assumption and a top local team in Eddyville, some speculated that this team may be too inexperienced to return to the state tournament while trying to replace six starters.
Enter freshman Bailey Hird who has gained much experience in her 34 innings pitched that the Trojans will rely on in the future regardless of the outcome of this season.
Those 34 innings have not necessarily been pretty, but they?ve been very important.
?I?m trying to build confidence and my teammates have helped that,? said the soon-to-be sophomore who is making her varsity debut this season.
She admitted that the team wasn?t as vocal early in the season, but now they are all having fun in the dugout cheering each other on.
Hird said she?s been struggling with her changeup lately, so she mainly focuses on her inside and outside fastball while going to her riser occasionaly.
With a smile she said the team?s confidence is ?starting to rise a lot,? before ending with the obvious.
?No one likes to lose, so winning is definitely helping.?
