Batavia woman charged with possessing meth

BATAVIA ? A woman was arrested Monday in Batavia and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office executed a search warrant at 504 Fourth St. Monday morning in Batavia as part of a theft and illicit narcotics investigation. Desiree Dawn Seibert, age 33 was arrested and charged with second-degree theft; possession of methamphetamine; and possession of marijuana, each a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail.

Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office, Fairfield Police Department Special Response Team, the Wapello County Sheriff?s Office, the Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug Task Force, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted.

A criminal charge is only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
