Birmingham Homecoming planned this weekend

BIRMINGHAM -- The annual Birmingham Homecoming will get underway Friday evening and continue through Sunday afternoon.

The Birmingham Lions Club will serve a tenderloin supper beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. The Prince and Princess contests will be at 5:30 p.m. in City Park, and the evening will wrap up with bingo for kids ages 12 and younger.

The Birmingham Lions Club will serve a biscuit and gravy breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Free registration for the car show will be 8 a.m. to noon. Judging is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the trophies are awarded at 2 p.m.

Free registration for the tractor show is 9-11 a.m. Allis Chalmer tractors will be featured, but all tractors are welcome. The Ferguson Enthusiasts regional gathering will be at 1 p.m.

Entries in both the car and tractor shows are welcome to participate in the parade. The lineup is 10 a.m. at city hall, with the parade starting at 11 a.m.

Baking contest entries are due from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Log Cabin in City Park. The contest has a cookies category for children age 12 and younger. The adult categories are: pies, cakes, breads, cookies, and rolls. Entry is free. Judging is at 12:30 p.m., and the items will be auctioned at 1:15 p.m.

The Methodist church will serve lunch, including brautwursts, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, desserts and drinks at noon.

From noon to 4 p.m., barrel train rides, face painting, a bounce house and other kids? activities are planned. The firemen?s free water sports for kids starts at 1 p.m. Signup for the kids? pedal pull is at 3 p.m., with the pull starting 30 minutes later.

An AirEvac helicopter, schedule permitting, will arrive and be on display at 4 p.m.

The firemen will serve an Iowa pork chop supper with twice-baked, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, bread and butter and drink from 5-7 p.m.

The Tarnished Brass Band will play from 5-6 p.m., and an ice cream and pie social will be hosted by Friendly 4 Corners 4-H Club beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday, the Birmingham Lions Club will serve a breakfast buffet from 7-9 a.m.

The Birmingham Presbyterian Church will host church service in the City Park shelter house at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome and is asked to being a lawn chair.

Weigh-in for the tractor pull begins at 10 a.m., and the competition begins at 11 a.m.

The rain date for the tractor pull is June 10.
