Bloomquist takes 21st, Pekin teams both make Top 10 at state meet

Saturday afternoon at the 2017 state cross country meet in Fort Dodge, Ashley Bloomquist did herself and the town of Fairfield proud as she put on a tremendous performance, shaving almost 33 seconds off her qualifying time from less than two weeks ago.

On Oct. 19 at Pella, Bloomquist ran 20:06.6 which qualified her as the third place finisher from that region. Saturday in Fort Dodge, the junior?s time improved to 19:33.7 which placed her 21st in the state at the 3A level.

Five seconds ahead was 18th place finisher Abby Ryon from Mt. Pleasant who had the best state meet finish in the conference with a time of 19:28.6. Center Point-Urbana sophomore Adrianna Katcher captured the championship, finishing the course in 18:23.5.



The Pekin girls finished 10th in Class 1A at the state meet Saturday. Runners and their times included: 10th Remi Duwa 20:32.3; 36th Cari Duwa 21:37.6; 54th Zoey Wright 22:07.2; 55th Hollie Loper 22:08.0; 56th Kelly Myers 22:08.4; 69th Hunter Lock 22:37.3; 93rd Kaitlyn Glosser 23:55.1.

The Panther boys? cross country team finished seventh in Class 1A at the state meet. Runners and their times included: 18th Colten Glosser 17:18.6; 19th Isaiah Wittrock 17:19.7; 27th Brady Millikin 17:33.1; 63rd Sam Roth 18:20.5; 64th Tanner Conger 18:20.6; 102nd Clayton Greiner 20:24.2 and 104th Cole Earnest 21:03.4.
