The Fairfield boy?s basketball team played an exhibition Saturday at Central Lee, coming away with an 82-70 victory despite dealing with injuries, and having players at the State Chorus event and NCYC.
The Trojans played like a team, assisting on 19 of 24 made field goals and forcing 19 turnovers. They also attacked the basket well, taking 44 foul shots, but Coach Flattery says the Trojans committed way too many fouls themselves.
Austin Simpson led the team in scoring and rebounding, recording a double-double with three steals to go with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Tristin Waugh did half of his scoring at the charity strip, going 8-10 there, with 16 points total to go with eight rebounds, five steals and three assists. Collin Breen had 15 points and four assists and Coach Flattery said, ?Collin?s length really disrupts a lot at the defensive end.?
Dante Cingire was in double digits offensively, tallying 13 points and dishing out two assists. Mark Diers had eight points and while Cole Engle didn?t have a field goal, he did contribute five points thanks to his 83 percent shooting from the foul line on six attempts. Aaron Haines and Cooper Drish each added three points to the team total.
Next for the Trojans is a trip to Pekin to play Cardinal jamboree tonight.
