The city of Fairfield will begin picking up burnable and chippable brush at 7 a.m. May 7.
Brush should be put in a neat pile adjacent to the street. This program is for residential use only. The city will not pick up from contractors.
? Nothing bigger than 24 inches in diameter or 13 feet in length will be accepted.
? Brush must be placed away from poles, fences and water shut-offs. City crews will not make a second trip through an area, and brush should be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. May 7.
? Piles must not interfere with traffic.
? The city recommends that this is an ideal time to do tree trimming since city crews are picking up the branches.
Free mulch and compost
The city of Fairfield?s compost site is located at 20th Street and Jackson Avenue. At any time, residents are welcome to load the mulch and compost there themselves, or contact the maintenance shed at 472-4750 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to make an appointment. The city will not be held liable for any damage that may occur in the loading process.
Residents can haul their own brush, limbs and yard clippings to the compost site. Signs are posted at designated areas for their specific type of yard waste. The site is not for contractors.
