Central Park to host movies

Fairfield hopes to begin a new tradition of showing a movie in Central Park every summer month.

The Fairfield City Council approved the plan at its meeting Monday. Fairfield Park and Rec director Calvin Todd asked permission to show a movie in the park the third Friday of the month from June through October.

Todd said Marla Brader of Fairfield First Fridays suggested the idea. The movie series will be put on by the Fairfield Parks and Rec Department, Fairfield First Fridays and the Fairfield Public Library.

The sponsoring groups already have the equipment necessary to project a film onto a large, inflatable screen. Todd said the park and rec department will work on securing licenses to play the films.

Todd said the group hasn?t finalized which movies will be shown, though he said they will all be family friendly. He estimated they would have to start after sundown at around 9 p.m. for the next three months until September, when the movie could start closer to 8:30 p.m. He said the group might move up October?s movie to earlier in the month.
