Chamber Singers in winter concert Saturday, Sunday

Chamber Singers present ?Winter?s Light? holiday concerts

The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa warmly invite the entire community to join them for ?Winter?s Light,? their holiday concert, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield.

The Chamber Singers will take their audience on a beautiful musical journey through seasonal themes of joy and wonder, reverence and peace, to awaken their holiday spirits and warm their hearts. Familiar holiday tunes in unique arrangements, a majestic Renaissance masterwork, and breathtaking new works by cutting-edge contemporary composers will enliven the magical, transforming qualities of this special time of year. From the 1600s to the present day, from ancient polyphony to beautiful modern harmonies, delightful world music, and vocal jazz, these choral selections will create a moving and exhilarating musical experience to celebrate the light of life in this season of peace and renewal.

Elaine Reding, music director of the Chamber Singers and recent recipient of the Fairfield Cultural Alliance?s 2017 Cultural Achievement and Legacy Award, says, ?These choral gems awaken emotions from exultation and celebration to deep joy, peace, and reverence, with gorgeous melodies, delightful rhythms, and a touch of fun too. The musical variety will include something for everyone, and we hope they enliven the holiday spirit and send you home singing.?

Pianist Lise Marcell will accompany the singers on several choral works. She also will be joined by Karen Aoki on flute for portions of two beautiful sonatas by Telemann and Handel that will complement the choral selections. Michael Fitzgerald on percussion will complete the instrumental ensemble.

A freewill offering will be collected at the door and will be greatly appreciated by the group.
