Congregate meals; Fairfield school meals

Fairfield, Lockridge congregate meals


Congregate meals are served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center and at noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.


The menu for the coming week is:


Monday ? all nutrition centers closed in observance of Labor Day.


Tuesday ? sweet and sour pork, brown rice, roasted Brussels sprouts, banana, ice cream.


Wednesday ? roast beef, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, Copper Penny Salad, diced cantaloupe.


Thursday ? baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, breaded tomatoes, peach-strawberry-banana medley.


Sept. 7 ? pork riblette patty, oven-roasted red potatoes, green pea and onion salad, fruit and yogurt parfait.


Each meal also includes wheat dinner roll or bread, unless another bread item is noted, margarine and skim milk.


Reservations for meals are required one day in advance. At the Fairfield site, reservations can be made either at the senior center or by calling 472-4403. At the Lockridge site, reservations must be called in to 319-696-3450 by 6 p.m.


For people 60 years of age and older and their spouse of any age, there is a suggested contribution based on income range. Individuals younger than 60 pay the full meal charge as posted at the meal site.


Check at the meal sites for meal options, such as shelf-stable meals or frozen meals, to use on days when no meal is served at the center.


Bingo is scheduled to be played from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center.


Cards and other activities are planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.

Fairfield school meals


School starts Tuesday in the Fairfield Community School District, and the menu for the coming week has been announced.


Elementary schools:


Tuesday ? breakfast: breakfast bread. Lunch: cheesy Trojan bread, steamed broccoli, marinara, peaches, milk.


Wednesday ? breakfast: yogurt and granola bites. Lunch: popcorn chicken, green beans, baby carrots, homemade roll, pears, milk.


Thursday ? breakfast: breakfast pizza. Lunch: walking taco, fiesta beans, salsa, fresh fruit, milk.


Friday ? breakfast: mini doughnut. Lunch: meatball sub, French fries, cucumber slices and ranch dressing, fresh fruit, milk.


Middle school:


Tuesday ? breakfast: breakfast bread. Lunch: cheesy Trojan bread or breaded mozzarella cheese sticks, marinara, peaches, milk.


Wednesday ? breakfast: yogurt and granola bites. Lunch: popcorn chicken or sweet Thai chili chicken, green beans, homemade roll, pears, milk.


Thursday ? breakfast: breakfast pizza. Lunch: walking taco with beef and cheese or walking taco with chicken and cheese, fiesta beans, fresh fruit, milk.


Friday ? breakfast: mini doughnut. Lunch: meatball sub or Mr. Rib on bun, French fries, fresh fruit, milk.


High school:


Tuesday ? breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: pizza, steamed broccoli, rosy applesauce.


Wednesday ? breakfast: breakfast pizza. Lunch: soft taco/burrito bowl bar, fiesta beans, peaches.


Thursday ? breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: cheeseburger on a bun or grilled chicken patty on a bun; savory carrots, mixed fruit.


Friday ? breakfast: breakfast burrito. Lunch: Salisbury steak and gravy or hot turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, peaches, homemade roll.
