Cougars shut down Trojans

The Trojan girls? basketball team played 16 good minutes of basketball Saturday night at home versus Cedar Rapids Kennedy; the other 16 minutes of the game is what left the Trojans with a 55-37 loss against the bigger Cougars.

Tied at 16 at the end of one quarter, Head Coach Brian Witzenburg and his team had to be feeling confident, then the roof caved in. Fairfield failed to score in the second quarter. You read that right. Nicole averages 21 points per game, she didn?t score. The team as a whole averages nearly 14 points a quarter, no one scored. To boot, the team only managed four points in the third quarter, leaving the Trojans with a 24-point deficit headed into the final period, after running with the Cougars for the first eight minutes. By this time the game was over, but the Trojans tried anyways, outscoring Kennedy 17-11 in the fourth quarter.

Kennedy senior Hailey Dolphins led all scorers with 23 points on 8-16 shooting and 5-5 from the charity stripe.

Thursday night, the Lady Trojans will return to action for their final contest of 2017, a road trip to Keokuk for an SEC battle before the holiday break.
