BATAVIA ? An Ottumwa man was arrested Wednesday in Batavia and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
At 10:55 a.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Third and Washington streets in Batavia. Twenty grams of methamphetamine was located during the search.
Jack David Hamilton, 24, of Ottumwa was arrested and charged with possession of more than 5 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
He was also charged with failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.
A criminal charge is only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
