A benevolent donor has come forward and will match donations to The African Violet Foundation up to $5,000 from now until the end of the year.
?I?m so grateful and pleased,? said Staci Wright, president and founder of The African Violet Foundation.
The African Violet Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that helps students and families.
The foundation has provided gifts to approximately 500 middle and high school students at Fairfield, Pekin and Van Buren community schools for 12 years. The gifts are given to students of low socio-economic status, students who have recently suffered a traumatic event and students who have made significant lifestyle changes to better their chances for a successful future. Parents, teachers and community members nominate students to receive the gifts.
The foundation also holds Caring Through Clothing events, with the most well-known held on Black Friday each year. Free clothing is given away to those who need it.
The African Violet Foundation also is in the process of opening a free-clothing boutique in late winter or early spring. The foundation purchased the building at 52 South B St. several months ago and has been relying largely on donated labor and materials in the process of gutting the building and redesigning the space.
Those who would like to help The African Violet Foundation in the altruistic work it is doing in the Fairfield and surrounding communities can send tax-deductible donations to: The African Violet Foundation, c/o Staci Wright, 305 E. Broadway Ave., Fairfield 52556.
