The Fairfield Elks Club hosted their annual junior golf tournament Monday at the Walton Club with 36-year member Doug Alexander helping coordinate the longtime event.
Alexander said that past local winners such as Davis Lowenberg and Olivia Hammel have gone on to win the state tournament which will be held this Friday at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.
While Alexander said numbers are down a bit due to the busy schedules families face during the summer, the Elk?s continue to support veteran and youth programs and events such as this and the national hoop shoot that start at the local level and work up to the state level.
Jacob Roach of Waukee and T.J. Jirak, Anthony Duncan and Lukas McEntee of Keosauqua played in this year?s competition with Jirak winning with a score of 94. Roach finished second with 102, followed by McEntee?s 106 and Duncan?s 107.
On top of being served lunch by the Walton Club staff, participants were treated to a gift bag full of balls and tees and coupons for meals and deals around the Fairfield area.
