The Fairfield boys? basketball team started the week with a 6 a.m. practice Monday, and finished the day some 14 hours later with a 42-6 half scrimmage victory over Cardinal.
Austin Simpson and Collin Breen each had eight points. Breen and Waugh each had three assists, with Waugh adding seven points as well to go with two steals. Cooper Drish had six points, Aaron Haines had five and Dante Cingire added two.
Mark Diers had five points and two steals, Hunter Drish had two points and three steals, and Drew Martin made a free throw, grabbed three boards and made two assists.
Coach Mick Flattery said he liked the teams? energy, especially considering how long of a day everyone had. He added.
?I thought they shared the ball well, and defensive communication got better from Saturday.?
The Trojans will have another week to prepare for their season/home opener Nov. 28 versus Oskaloosa at FHS.
No. 42 Allen Waite and No. 12 Ben Clark were the lone scorers for Cardinal.
The Comets and first-year coach Michael Strasko open the season Nov. 27 at home versus SEISC rival Pekin.
