Fairfield woman injured in accident

A Fairfield woman was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon for injuries suffered in an automobile accident.


The accident occurred at 3:46 p.m. at the intersection of South Fifth Street and West Washington Avenue. A vehicle driven by Joe Zapata, 22, of Fairfield, was southbound on Fifth Street. Zapata failed to yield upon entering the intersection with Washington, and struck a vehicle driven by Shelvia Spalla, 77, of rural Fairfield.


A passenger in Spalla?s car, Kathy Winland of Fairfield, was transported by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center for minor injuries.


Spalla?s vehicle sustained $6,000 in damages, while Zapata?s sustained $4,000.


Zapata was cited for failure to yield, no valid driver?s license and no insurance.
