FFA holds awards banquet

The Fairfield FFA Chapter held its annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in the Fairfield High School Commons, with approximately 100 FFA members and guests in attendance.


The 2017-2018 FFA officer team opened the banquet with opening ceremonies. Supper followed, served by Sweet ?n Saucy.


Then, the officers held the Greenhand Degree Ceremony. Those awarded the Greenhand Degree this year were: Logan Adam, Brody Angstead, Wyatt Baker, Daniel Baldosier, Brianna Buch, Phoebe Fiedler, Chandler Gerleman, Kyle Godwin, Daphne Gunderson, Rachal Johnston, Kyleah McCabe, Blake Metz, Cohyn Roach, Edwin Small, Bradley Smithburg, and Carson Wells.


The Star Greenhand Degree was given to Daniel Baldosier.


Next was the Chapter Degree award, those who received the award were Austin Adkison, Konnor Burkhart, Miles Gerleman, Ben Johnston, Elan Ledger, Sophia Mineart, Hannah Peck, Kaitlyn Post, Jacob Scotton, and Daylan Sinn.


The Star Chapter Award was given to Sophia Mineart.


Career Development Event Certificates were given to those competing in contests this year. Hannah Clubb, Sophia Mineart, Hollie Nelson, and Hannah Peck participated in District Soils Judging. Hannah Clubb represented the chapter in Ag Broadcasting, receiving a silver. Phoebe Fiedler represented the chapter as the Creed Speaker, receiving a bronze. The Conduct of Meetings Team, comprised of Kyle Godwin, Ben Johnston, Blake Metz, Sophia Mineart, Kaitlyn Post, Jacob Scotton, and Bradley Smithburg, received a silver. Jenna Wickenkamp represented the chapter in Job Interview, receiving a silver. Hollie Nelson participated in Public Speaking and received silver and alternate to Districts. And Stetson Spees received gold for Welding. The chapter display, created by Hannah Clubb, Sophia Mineart, Hollie Nelson, Kaitlyn Post, and Jenna Wickenkamp, received a gold rating and 12th place overall. The Ag Sales Team comprised of Sophia Mineart, Blake Metz, Kaitlyn Post, and Cohyn Roach received a silver. Austin Adkison, Daniel Baldosier, Hollie Nelson, and Stetson Spees participated in the Poultry Judging contest. They received a gold rating and 16th place overall, out of 88 teams, with Hollie Nelson ranking 23rd overall individual.


The top five fruit sellers were recognized by the treasurer. They were, in order: Austin Adkison, Hannah Clubb, Blu Schultz, Daniel Baldosier, Sophia Mineart.


Business appreciation awards were given to Bob Brown Excavating, Dickey Transport, Edgewood Electrical Construction, Fairfield Precast Concrete, First National Bank, Ferrell Gas, Hickenbottom Inc., Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Keosauqua Lumber Company, Libertyville Savings Bank, Pilot Grove Savings Bank, Schaus-Vorhies Manufacturing, Weaver Brothers Construction, WLD Service Ltd.


The FFA Alumni officers gave an update on what they have been doing throughout the year including the new FFA food booth last summer.


Seniors were recognized for their contributions and accomplishments during the last four years, and Hollie Nelson was given the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award.


The banquet ended with the 2017-2018 FFA officer team being recognized for their service to the chapter throughout the year and were awarded retiring officer plaques. The 2017-2018 FFA officer team was: Hollie Nelson, president; Blu Schultz, vice president; Sophia Mineart, secretary; Anna Beasley, treasurer; Hannah Clubb, reporter; and Stetson Spees, sentinel.


Then, the retiring officer team installed the 2018-2019 chapter officers: Hannah Clubb, president; Sophia Mineart, vice president; Kaitlyn Post, secretary; Jenna Wickenkamp, treasurer; Benjamin Johnston, reporter; and Jacob Scotton, sentinel.


The new officer team conducted closing ceremonies, and door prizes were given out.


The FFA Alumni also had a auction fundraiser, with Rick Spees Auction service as the auctioneer.
