Fixing a sinkhole

Fairfield city employees dig up North Ninth Street south of the railroad tracks earlier this week. A sinkhole was discovered at the location last week, prompting the city to close North Ninth Street between Depot and Lowe avenues. Fairfield Streets Superintendent Darrel Bisgard said a camera sent through the storm sewer revealed that the sinkhole was caused by running water from a leaky storm sewer main. He hopes the work will be done in time to reopen the street next week after city crews pour rock in the cavity.
