Fairfield Middle School?s summer band session will be held from Monday through Aug. 10 at the middle school.
The incoming sixth-grade rehearsal time is from 8-9:15 a.m. each day for the two weeks.
The incoming seventh- and eighth-grade (combined) rehearsal time is 9:45-11 a.m. each day for the two weeks.
Cost for the session is $40 and includes a T-shirt, treats, and prizes.
Fees are payable to Fairfield Band Aides. A registration form was sent home at the end of the school year and also is available on the Fairfield Community School District?s website.
If a student plans to attend band camp, but has not registered, email FMS band instructor Mary Andersen so that a folder can be ready for those students on the first day of camp. Registration is accepted the first day of camp.
The summer opportunities help the students remember what they?ve learned this year, and advance their skills, said Andersen. They receive as much group instruction in the summer session as they do for an entire quarter of the school year, and learn as much literature as an entire semester of school curriculum.
Student participation helps reduce the amount of time needed for review once school starts, and helps students advance their skills.
?We take students where they are and build their skills throughout the camp,? said Andersen.
All three band directors for the school district are present for the camp, as well as a variety of mentors from the Fairfield High School Band.
Camp closes with a concert to display all that the students have learned. The concert will be Aug. 10 in the FMS commons. The sixth-grade group will play at 8 a.m., and the seventh- and eighth-grade group will begin at 9:30 a.m.
