Free class teaches how to make nutritious meals on a budget

A free ?Spend Smart. Eat Smart.? class is planned from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Lord?s Cupboard.

?Spend Smart. Eat Smart.? is a class in which individuals can learn ways to make nutritious meals on a budget.

?Good nutrition does not have to be expensive,? said Taylor Sickels, a horticulturist with Jefferson County ISU Extension and Outreach. ?Learn strategies to save on food expenses while incorporating new ideas into menu planning and food shopping.?

The class is open to anyone who is interested, but would be especially helpful to individuals, such as EBT clients, families, single parents, college students and others, who are working to stretch dollars, said Sickels.

?With a little planning, savvy shopping and tasty recipes to cook at home, you?ll be well on your way,? she said. ?The ?Spend Smart. Eat Smart.? team is here to help!?

Sara Sprouse, a nutrition and wellness specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, will work with participants to make a recipe together during the class.

A minimum of five participants are needed to hold the class. Registration is required.
