The Fairfield freshman basketball team beat Fort Madison 65-36 Thursday.
The Trojans started fast, sprinting to a 24-7 lead after the first period, and kept their proverbial foot on the gas with a barrage of baskets from the perimeter in the second quarter while extending their advantage to 49-19.
It took less than :60 of the third period before Fairfield had pushed their lead to the 35-point limit, forcing a running-clock for the remainder of the game. The Trojan coaching staff was able to substitute every player in for at least two quarters, giving the young team experience in an organized game which is key to developing a deep and dependable bench for the future.
Eight kids scored on the night, led by Waugh?s 25 and Whitney?s 19 points. Kapijipanga and Holden each added six points a piece, while Gerleman tallied three and Schafer, Crile and Jeffrey totaled two each.
