The Fairfield boys played Oskaloosa Monday, a day before the jv and varsity will host the Indians in their home-opener.
The Trojans won handily, 47-31, after jumping our to an early 10-4 lead, but leading by only a single point at the end of eight minutes.
Coach Perkins said the freshmen ?picked up their defense and outscored Osky 12-4 in the 2nd quarter,? creating easy buckets off turnovers and giving the Trojans a 24-15 lead at the half.
In the third period, Fairfield extended their lead to 33-20 by outscoring the Indians 9-4 and allowing the Trojans to play all 11 guys in the final frame. Even with the bench in the game, Fairfield outscored Oskaloosa 14-11 in the fourth.
Leading scorers were Xavier Kapijimpanga with 16, Ethan Waugh had 10, Blake Holden added 10, Nathon Whitney chipped in five, Kyle Jeffrey added four and Landen Schaffer scored two.
Chris Chavez, Ethan Nebinger, Jeremy Crile, Tysean Redd and Chandler Gerleman also saw playing time, but did not score.
