Gathering Place plans workday Saturday

A workday is planned Saturday at The Gathering Place.

Work to be done includes lighting, painting, sheetrocking and general cleaning.


Gamma Circle schedules meeting Thursday

The Gamma Circle of First Presbyterian Church will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday at SunnyBrook Assisted Living.

Sandy Gillaspie will be host. Nell Swygard will have devotions. Shirley McCracken will have the program.


First Presbyterian sets Souper Bowl Sunday Feb. 4

First Presbyterian Church is planning a Souper Bowl Sunday Feb. 4 in honor of the Super Bowl LII football game to be played later in the day.

A Souper Bowl lunch will be held following the 10 a.m. worship service.

All proceeds will go to The Lord?s Cupboard and Take Away Hunger.

The Lord?s Cupboard is the county?s emergency food pantry and distributes about 6,000 food orders per year.

Take Away Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operated by Don and Sandee Fields of Brighton. The organization fights worldwide hunger by providing millions of meals packed by local volunteers, including a group of churches in Fairfield.

Those churches include: First Presbyterian, Fairfield Friends, First Baptist, First Christian (Disciples of Christ) and Word of Life Lutheran, all in Fairfield, and Faith Methodist Church in Libertyville.

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League. The game is the culmination to a regular season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year. The Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots will compete in the championship game this year. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.


Faith United Methodist plans meal, movie Feb. 4

LIBERTYVILLE ? Faith United Methodist Church is planning a cooperative soup meal, followed by a movie, Feb. 4.

The event will be after the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
