Human remains identified from burnt car

PULASKI ? The human remains that were found inside a burnt vehicle Jan. 27 in Davis County have been identified.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a news release this week indicating the body was that of Sharon Kay Moritz, 63, of Northwood. The car that Moritz was located in was registered to her.

The car was a 2006 White Chevrolet four-door Impala. The investigation found that Moritz has family from the Davis County area. The full autopsy results are still pending and will not be completed for approximately four to six weeks.

The remains were discovered at about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 27 when a local farmer came upon them in the 27000 block of Vetch Avenue near Pulaski. The vehicle was located in a farm lane off a dirt road.

The case is being investigated by the Davis County Sheriff?s office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, State Fire Marshall?s office, Iowa Department of Transportation and the Davis County Attorney and the Office of State Medical Examiner.
