Fairfield wrestler Brendon Lunsford ended his high school-age career by participating on one of three Iowa AAU junior/senior all-star national dual teams.
The event took place at HyVee Hall in Des Moines and featured wrestlers from all over the country. Lunsford went 8-1 and only lost to the 2A runner-up that had bested Brendon at the Iowa state tournament earlier this year.
Lunsford was his team?s top scorer with seven pins and a decision versus his nine opponents that featured a 1st-5th place-winner from their own state tournament in each of his matches.
One of Lunsford?s most impressive victories came in the form of a pin over the North Dakota state champion in 3:58.
Lunsford earned All-American, along with 185 other wrestlers out of 728.
Also wrestling with Lunsford was Pekin?s Drake Harbison who went 3-6 and finished his tournament with a great match with Iowa?s Class 1A third-place finisher, losing a close decision in the end.
