A man was arrested Friday after leaving the scene of an accident on foot.
At about 5:10 a.m. Friday, the Keokuk County Sheriff?s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident at Highway 78 and 220th Avenue, near Pekin schools. A female passenger from the vehicle was transported to the Jefferson County Hospital. The male driver had left the scene on foot and Deputies were unable to locate him at the time.
At about 9:45 a.m., deputies received further information regarding suspicious traffic activity in the area of the accident scene. That resulted in an encounter with a vehicle containing Michael Paul Bibby, 32, of Ottumwa, who was identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the earlier accident.
Bibby was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center to be treated for injuries which were consistent with the car accident. Bibby was released from the health center and then taken to the Keokuk County Jail where he is incarcerated on the following charges: failure to maintain control, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance (class D felony), failure to affix drug tax stamp (class D felony), and possession of a firearm by a felon (class D felony).
Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.
The Keokuk County Sheriff?s Office was assisted by Wapello County Sheriff?s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Sigourney Police Department and Keokuk County Conservation.
All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
