Ottumwa swimming beats ?Burg, loses to Ames

The five Fairfield student-athletes that swim for the Ottumwa Bulldogs had a meet Thursday against Williamsburg and Ames, hosted by the Red Raiders.

Juniors Jackson Weaton and Evan Huff swam in event No. 4, the 200 yard freestyle, with Weaton finishing second in 1:57.87 and Huff in fourth at 2:36.24. Event No.8 was the 50 yard free, with freshman Kevin Kretz getting third in 23.67, followed by sophomore Dylan Barras in 25.40. Event No. 12 featured Kretz again, this time finishing second in the 100 yard free in 51.85 seconds.

Junior Evan Masterson completed the 500 yard freestyle race in third place with a time of 7:30.93 in event No. 14. Two events later in the 200 yard free relay, three Trojans were split between two teams of four with Kretz and Weaton swimming third and anchor for the second place team that finished in 1:34.40, and Barras was the anchor on the fourth place team that finished in 1:46.58.

The 18th event was the 100 yard backstroke, where Barras finished fourth in 1:05.90. The 22nd and final event of the night was the 400 yard free relay where Jackson Weaton swam lead in 25.62 and 53.57, and Kevin Kretz followed with splits of 24.58 and 51.57. The team itself finished third in a total time of 3:37.43.

Official varsity teams scores were 102-46 Ottumwa over the Red Raiders, while the Little Cyclones beat Ottumwa 106-52.
