Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga could be ready to return to the starting lineup for the regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 9.
Bulaga was placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL in his right knee in November. He was hurt Nov. 6 against the Detroit Lions.
Veteran right tackle Byron Bell signed as insurance at tackle. Bulaga also torn his left ACL in 2013.
?You obviously had a similar injury before and very much in tune with the time frame there, but he looks great,? Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. ?I think Bryan has been here the whole summer except for maybe one day, two days. I know that he was in here every day that I was in here. So, same with Nick. This is more of a Dr. McKenzie-type decision and I think he?s got to also look into history and obviously where they are in their career.?
McCarthy said he didn?t see a threat that Bulaga and linebacker Nick Perry (ankle), who was also placed on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, would not be ready for Week 1.
The only offensive lineman the Packers drafted was fifth-round pick Cole Madison, who was a surprising no-show for training camp. McCarthy would only say Madison?s absence was a personal issue. General manager Brian Gutekunst said Madison projects to guard in the NFL.
