Here?s a message for Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst:
Enough with the ?Constitutional Convention to enact a balanced budget amendment? scam. A constitutional convention would most likely result in the demolition of the Bill of Rights. It would almost certainly be the end of any remaining hope we might have for government of the people, by the people and for the people in the United States.
And, a constitutional convention for the sake of amending the U.S. Constitution is totally unnecessary. We already have a process for amending the U.S. Constitution that?s been used successfully 27 times.
If you want to amend the constitution to get government spending under control, consider instead a constitutional amendment to get the money out of politics. This is known as the We the People Amendment, and it has been introduced more than once in the U.S. Congress. The latest version is House Joint Resolution 48 introduced Jan. 30, 2017. It needs to be introduced in the U.S. Senate. Please get this done. Immediately. Sixteen states have already passed resolutions supporting such an amendment. Twenty-two others are in the process of doing so.
With a We the People Amendment ratified and in place, you?ll see government spending come under control, because we the people, not corporate and commercial interests, will be in charge of deciding how our government collects the money it needs and how that money gets spent. You will see government spending and government programs become much more responsible, equitable and fair. You?ll also see everyone ? corporations, wealthy interests and ordinary citizens - paying their fair share of the taxes needed to operate our government sensibly. I know this isn?t what your corporate and other wealthy donors want, so I leave it to you to decide who you?re in office to serve: them, or all of us.
