Pekin ladies win seventh straight, improve to 9-1

Coach Eidahl and the Pekin girls? basketball team made it seven in a row Tuesday night with a 49-32 victory over Winfield-Mt. Union.

The Panther defense clamped down on the Wolves, allowing less then 10 points in each of the four quarters. Pekin?s offense played well enough to keep the spread comfortable, leading by seven after one period, 11 at the break, 18 at the end of three quarters and a 17 point victory was theirs after the final gun sounded.

Senior Maci Gambell edged her younger cousin, junior Haley Gambell, 14-11 in scoring. Maci accounted for more than half of the Panthers 35 rebounds as well, grabbing 10 offensive and eight defensive boards. Junior Zoey Wright added six points, four rebounds, and team-highs in assists with six and steals with four.

Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. is the next game for Head Coach Davis Eidahls? team when they travel to Kalona to face Iowa Mennonite School.

The 9-1 Panthers should be a decent sized favorite Tuesday night against the 1-7 team based in Kalona.
