Jefferson County Conservation will be hosting free Iowa Butterfly Survey Network training from 1-3:30 p.m. March 17 at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center.
Butterfly lovers can take an active role in conservation as citizen scientists through the Iowa Butterfly Survey Network, with training from the Reiman Gardens entomology staff.
Participants will learn survey techniques specifically developed for butterflies so they can help monitor butterfly populations and provide valuable data to identify potential threats, show effectiveness of habitat restoration efforts and give an annual snapshot of the health of all butterfly populations in Iowa.
Preregistration is required because a minimum of 12 participants is required for the training to take place. Jefferson County Naturalist Therese Cummiskey is asking people to sign up now by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 472-4421.
