Sign up by Friday for holiday floral decor workshop

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Jefferson County is hosting a Holiday Floral Decor Workshop from 9-11:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

Decorating homes with floral arrangements is a practice that dates back to the ancient Egyptians more than 4,000 years ago. Today, it is commonly seen in homes during the holidays or for big events like weddings and banquets. FTD Master Designer Barbara Kistler will demonstrate the design and creation of centerpieces and other holiday floral ideas using landscape materials, such as evergreen and dogwood, as well as fresh flowers and candles. She will cover everything from tool use and safety to supplies and arranging common winter flora.

The workshop is hands-on. Participants will create their own centerpiece with provided materials.

To reserve a spot in the class, call the ISU Extension office in Fairfield at 472-4166 or email The deadline is Friday.

The fee is $20.
