Speas: Batavia is making progress

BATAVIA ? Long time Batavia City Councilor and former Mayor David Speas is running for another four-year term.

?I like being involved,? Speas said. ?I try to stay involved with different committees; I?ve seen a lot of good things, and bad things, in Batavia ... but we keep trying to make progress in the town.?

Speas has been working with Batavia?s city council in some capacity for around 26 years.

?I?ve done the best that I could to be helpful to the community,? he said, reminiscing about pivotal moments for the community over the years.

?We?ve gotten some properties that have gotten cleaned up and old homes torn down ... we?re working with the resources we have to try to make Batavia a better community,? he said. ?I love to see new businesses come into town, and the Cardinal school district is really booming ? that?s drawn some people.?

?My wife was from Batavia, and we moved here and raised a family,? he said, adding that he got involved with Little League.
