The monthly Legislative forums where residents hear updates from local Senators and Representatives will continue Saturday from 7:30-9 a.m. at Best Western Fairfield Inn.
Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the forums, of which there are four. This will be the third. The final forum will be April 21.
Note that the forums have returned to Best Western Fairfield Inn and are not at the Fairfield Public Library like they were last year. At the time, then chamber director Detra Dettmann said the chamber wanted to move away from the fee-based breakfasts to a venue where everyone was welcome free of charge.
The event remains free, like it was last year. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided to visitors, and chamber director Darian Sloat will host the program.
The state legislators invited to attend include: Sen. Mark Chelgren (R-Ottumwa), Sen. Rich Taylor (D-Mt. Pleasant), Rep. Phil Miller (D-Fairfield) and Rep. Dave Heaton (R-Mt. Pleasant).
Chelgren announced Saturday that he does not plan to seek re-election to Senate District 41. He endorsed Mariannette Miller-Meeks, the state?s former public health director under Gov. Terry Branstad, for the Republican nomination.
Topics discussed at recent legislative forums have included gun control, mental health, school vouchers, funding the courts, water quality and tax credits.
