To the editor:
Distilling the weeks and months of CAFO-related articles: stunning to me that it?s 97 percent everyday Iowans vs 3 percent CAFO owners!
[Editor?s note: CAFO stands for confined animal feeding operation.]
How powerful ag has become, to the detriment of man and land.
I know that in general ministers shy away from politics. Can?t blame them. Too polarizing. But the Bible weighs in on this issue clearly, beyond economics or politics:
Philippians 2:4 - Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interest of others.
Luke 6:31- And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
I can?t see that any of the CAFO owners would live next door to one, nor any member of the past or current board of supervisors. Maybe time for ministers to stand up for their flock and proclaim a pestilence a pestilence. There are many farmers of good faith, stewards of the land, who know this is a pestilence as well. Time to take a stand!
