A five-run first inning by the Fairfield baseball team led to a 7-5 victory in the regular season finale over visiting Oskaloosa Tuesday night.
Cade Lisk went 1-2 with a three-run homer in the opening frame and Tristin Waugh was 2-4 with two, two-RBI hits including a double in the first that made it 5-0 Fairfield.
Waugh drove in the other two runs in the bottom of the fourth and Kosta Papazoglou was the only other Trojan to hit safely twice, although Hunter Hoskins did collect the other base knock along with a run scored.
Caden Jones got the start and the win, throwing 55 pitches in four innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one and walking none.
Jimmy Kurka came in for an inning of relief and tossed 31 pitches, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and no walks with a strikeout.
Cole Engle threw the sixth inning and allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in 16 pitches.
Papazoglou finished things off with four pitches in the seventh that led to no runs on no hits with no walks or strikeouts.
Fairfield (28-8) will now host Fort Madison Friday night in the second game of the Class 3A substate 5 district 10 semifinals held at the FMS field. Game one features Washington (21-10) and Iowa City Liberty (10-20) with the winner facing the Trojans/Chiefs winner on Monday, also at the middle school field and scheduled for 7 p.m.
