Trojan girls finish 1-2, Pekin 3-4-6-7-9

The Pekin girls cross country team won by a large margin Monday night at Knoxville with a score of 29, however, it was Fairfield senior Ashley Bloomquist who took the ladies title in 20:36.7.

While Bloomquist told The Ledger at Meet the Trojans that she was hoping Pekin junior Remi Duwa would run with her, she also said that she planned on running her own pace and ?if she comes with, she comes with.?

In all honesty, no one was able to come with, and the Trojans sophomore tennis star Yana Gaskell finished in second place overall with a time of 22:40.7, 124 seconds behind Ashley.

Duwa finished third in 22:56.1, followed by a trio of freshmen that came in fourth, sixth and seventh for Pekin when Lauren Derscheid crossed the finish line in 23.32.9, Maddie Black in 24:41.0 and Emily Laumeyer in 24:55.9.

Fairfield freshman Delaney Breen ran a pace of 8:07 and finished eighth in 25:16.1 and Pekin ninth-grader Lily Fariss was right behind her with a ninth-place time of 25:28.3 to round out the Panthers scoring.

The Trojans also had scoring times by juniors Destiny Gridley, 27:07.8 for 17th and Mahayla Mellott 28:11.3 for 19th.

Pekin senior Hunter Lock and freshman Mia Clark finished 0.4 apart for 11th and 12th, respectively, although the two were sixth and seventh on the Panther roster and their time did not officially ?score.?
