Trojan girls golf learns from struggles

Fairfield?s girls golf team shot a combined 479 Thursday evening in Kalona, finishing in ninth-place out of 10 teams.

Head Coach Joe Kruzich said, ?We learned a lot about ourselves and what we need to do to be more successful moving forward.? The Trojan skipper added, ?This was our first 18-hole tournament of the year and we will be better in future because of our struggles in this one.?

Host Mid-Prairie tied Williamsburg with a team score of 396, well ahead of third place Wilton?s 409, Iowa City Liberty?s 424 or West Branch?s 426 that just barely edged Tipton by a stroke for fifth-place.

Neely Maurus of Liberty was the low-stroker with an 83 for her efforts. Top Trojan was Joli Swan with 111, followed by Megan Higgins? 114, Kaelyn Strong?s 120 and Lindy Kaska with 138.

Fairfield will travel to Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club today for a 4 p.m. triangular with Washington and the host Panthers in Southeast Conference play.
