Trojans a man down in match versus Fort Madison

Fairfield boys? tennis No. 1 Gannon Courtright missed the Trojans? match at Fort Madison Tuesday, due to the track team competing at the Don Newell Relays in Sigourney. However his teammates led FHS to a 6-3 Southeast Conference victory over the Bloodhounds in his absence.


Logan Williams and Dante Cingire both shifted up from No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, and were victorious in straight sets while doing so.


Senior Jarod Willmon lost in the No. 3 slot, 4-6, 5-7 to freshman Jason Thurman.


Junior A.J. Greiner won easily 6-1, 6-1, but classmate Will Sheppard struggled with Vasin Thurman in the No. 5 slot and lost 1-6, 3-6.


Sophomore Noel Peterson slid up into the No. 6 spot from the junior varsity roster and after losing his opening set 4-6, won 6-1, 10-5 for the match victory.


 


Doubles


Cingire and Willmon stayed together as a pair with the shifting, but fell 3-6, 1-6 to Sam Avery and Austin Krueger. Williams got newbie Peterson who helped him defeat the brothers Thurman 6-7, 6-1, 10-8 and Greiner and Sheppard remained a duo in their 6-4, 6-3 victory over Feuerhammer/Hing.


 


The boys? team will host Centerville Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the middle school courts.
