There are a couple of stats that help describe the dominance displayed during the Van Buren girls? basketball team?s 80-22 win Friday night at New London. One is the fact that the Warriors led 21-0 at the end of the first eight minutes, after shutting out the Tigers on their own court.
A stat that shows Head Coach Matt Zietler?s teams? depth is the 22 points scored by the offense in the third quarter, most in the game for Van Buren, showing that even with the starters mostly removed, the Warriors have the ability to continuing scoring, which will be very key in a playoff run come February.
My favorite stat of the game is that every single girl, all 12 on the roster, scored at least one point or assisted on one made field goal in the 58-point road win.
The statistical standouts were names you?ve read, sophomore Taryn Scheurmann outscored New London herself with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and a steal. The newbie, freshman Isabel Manning, was second on the team in scoring with 19 points and tops on the team with seven steals. Manning also rounded out her performance with five assists and three boards.
The win improves the Warriors record to 3-1 with Burlington Notre Dame traveling to Keosauqua Tuesday night for a boys?/girls? doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
