Van Buren improves to 4-1

Tuesday the Van Buren girls? basketball team continued to look like one of the premiere teams in 2A when they walloped Burlington Notre Dame 65-29.

Head Coach Matt Zietler?s confidence is rising, because his team played ?terrible? in his words, struggling to shoot while playing ?OK? defense. Keep in mind, the Warriors never trailed, and increased their six-point lead at the end of the first period to 13 by the half.

A 21-point offensive outburst in the third quarter sent the driver to warm the busses, and by the time the game ended, Van Buren had increased its lead to 36 points over Burlington-Notre Dame.

Sophomore Taryn Scheuermann led the team in scoring and rebounding with 20 points and 14 boards. Fellow 10th grader, Madison Bartholomew also had double digit points with 11 to go with her two rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Coach Z and part of his squad are going to road trip to catch the Cy-Hawk series in Ames tonight before practice this weekend and then Tuesday they will get back to work on the hardwood against SEISC foe WACO-Wayland and Coach Shannon Rugg, a good friend of Coach Zietler?s.
