Volunteers needed for April 28 tree planting

Volunteers are sought to plant trees April 28 along Highway 1.

Green Iowa AmeriCorps is organizing the event, which will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The trees will be planted along the east side of Highway 1 near the campus of Maharishi University of Management. The trees will match those planted along the west side of the street last year.

The two rows of trees will give the road the feeling of a residential area.

The 44 trees to be planted come courtesy of Alliant Energy?s Branching Out program. They include prairie crabapple, redbud, American hornbeam and tulip tree.

Volunteers are asked to meet on the east side of the Argiro Student Center.
