Vote for family values this election

To the editor:

This Tuesday, Sept. 12, is an important scheduled election of (three four-year terms and one two-year term) Jefferson County Board of Education positions. (The seat vacated by the election of Phil Miller has been filled.)

Fifty-two percent of our county taxes and 60 percent of state funds go to schools, so attention to careful and responsible spending and budgeting of these finances is paramount! We must not spend money we don?t have!

There are other issues such as Common Core and low student achievement scores. Fairfield?s average score on standardized testing is in the bottom third of Iowa school districts. Low teacher pay is a problem. Our school enrollment has been falling due to the gender issues along with the funding that comes with each student.

Top on my list are family values in today?s increasingly secular and misguided world! For these reasons, I wish to speak for the election of James Elliott, Virgil Symmonds and Ben Picard. (I urge you to pray and study the issues and make your vote count).

This is also a county election so every vote is (always) key to the outcome. Our children?s futures (and the future of the world we live in) depend on it!

There is also a prayer gathering for these and other issues this Monday, Sept. 11, at 6:45 p.m. at Friends Church.
