Warriors golf whacks Holy Trinity, loses to New London

April 19, the Van Buren boys? golf team defeated Holy Trinity Catholic 174-188 at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison for a dominant Southeast Iowa Super Conference win.

Individual scores were: sophomore Jonah Heckenberg 41, junior Luke Baker 44, senior Austin Giberson 44, junior Jacob Plecker 45, junior Brycen Starnes 50 and senior Tommy Laughlin 52.

Head Coach Tony Vandergriff said, ?We got to play at a new course the team hadn?t seen this year, although five of the six played it last year for the SEISC tournament.?

He added, ?The first three holes are really tough over their on the front nine and we did not play them well at all. Giberson was eight-over after three holes and I was very proud of him shooting even par over the last six. A couple of the other guys that shot in the mid-40?s also had a couple of bad holes to start, but we got everything together by hole three.?

This week

The Warriors lost to New London 185-160 and will now travel to Honey Creek today to play in a tournament that includes Vandergriff?s buddy and fellow golf coach Mick Flattery?s Trojan squad.
