Tristin Waugh had a bit of a family rivalry going on Tuesday night when the Trojan baseball team hosted Mt. Pleasant for a varsity conference doubleheader at the middle school fields.
The junior Waugh wasn?t sure of the relationship between senior Panther pitcher Colby Potts and his twin Caleb who started at battery for Mt. Pleasant in game two and whose mother is sisters with Tristin?s mom.
?It?s your cousin,? assisted classmate Austin Simpson while shaking his head.
Either way, the cousins did a lot of playful taunting between games, knowing that senior Colby would get to face Tristin with Caleb behind the plate.
?He said he would throw three straight curve balls, but he hung the first one,? explained Waugh who ripped the stitches off the ball for a three-run homer.
The team worked on facing a lefty during the intermission with Trojan-do-gooder Corey Klem throwing some batting practice as a southpaw.
Although Waugh won the family duel, it wasn?t without humility.
?It was an amazing feeling to do it off of him and it?s always been a rivalry between us, but I?ve got to give him credit. He pitched a great game but we hit the ball well off of him.?
The Potts will have their chance at redemption when the Trojans travel to Mt. Pleasant July 2 for the Southeast Conference finale.
