Weather forces Nelson fundraising golf tournament to become bags tournament

KEOSAUQUA -- The Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser Golf Tournament in Honor of Timothy Nelson set for Saturday at Riverview Club in Keosauqua has been canceled due to weather and golf course conditions.

In lieu of the golf tournament, a bags tournament will be held at the club.

?As you all know, it?s been raining like crazy,? said Elizabeth Eland, Timothy Nelson?s sister and one of the event organizers. ?After much talk and brain storming, we have decided to cancel the golf tournament for this year ... but we have decided to switch things up to still try and raise money for these amazing causes. So we will be having a corn hole tournament instead.?

Registration for the bags tournament is set for 11:30 a.m., with the tournament starting at noon. Registration fee is $25 per two-person team.

Those who planned to golf are not committed to participating in the bags tournament. But anyone who would like to participate should contact Eland at 233-0185 or Lori Nelson at 319-288-0991 as soon as possible.

The silent auction, with many different donated items including baked goods, and Goehring BBQ are still planned, with the barbecue setting up at 5 p.m.

The event is in honor of Timothy Nelson, who died June 24, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals from complications associated with cystic fibrosis. Nelson was born June 24, 1991, in Ottumwa, the son of Frank and Lori Nelson of Stockport.

All proceeds raised during the tournament will be split between the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a memorial in Nelson?s name at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City to help offset the cost of treatments and hospitalizations.

?This will still be lots of fun for an amazing cause,? said Lori Nelson.
