'America's Got Talent' finalists shadow dancing Tuesday at Sondheim

Famous as a finalist on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” Catapult will present “The Magic of Shadow Dance” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

“The Magic of Shadow Dance” is packed with hundreds of shape transformations, humor and engaging stories. The talented Catapult dancers work behind a screen to create seemingly impossible dancing shadow silhouettes of shapes from the world around us. You won’t believe your eyes as you watch dancers tell incredible stories by transforming their bodies into dragons, castles, animals and intricate landscapes.

“You will watch in amazement as these incredible dancers become a mountain, a full-size elephant, a helicopter, a house with a window and people inside,” said Rustin Lippincott, director of the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. “Catapult’s show is packed with hundreds of shape transformations and is full of humor, emotion and engaging stories. You will never figure out how they do it and you won’t know what they will make next!”

Founded a decade ago by Adam Battlestein, Catapult Entertainment had three years under their collective belt before the producers of “America’s Got Talent” came calling. His dancers had only performed for companies, relaying specifically requested messages and stories to the companies’ employees. In the nearly five years since the show, Catapult has received international acclaim for its live shadow dance performances in over 100 cities.

Talent judge Howard Stern called Catapult a “million dollar act.” Since the television debut, Catapult has been touring worldwide, including Saudi Arabia, Geneva, Stockholm, Lithuania, Nigeria, Monte Carlo, Lincoln Center in New York and Las Vegas. Catapult embarked on its first U.S. tour last year.

Tickets for Catapult’s “Magic of Shadow Dance” show are $32 for Zone 1, $27 for Zone 2, $23 for Zone 3 and $20 for Zone 4, Youth & Student tickets are $15. Tickets are available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center ticket office, 472-2787 and www.FairfieldACC.com.
