Fairfield Police Officer Ryan Mills has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree burglary.

Mills entered the plea in a written arraignment Thursday. Mills, 31, was charged in February with stealing narcotics from the Veterinary Clinic, P.C. in Fairfield. The charge is a Class C felony.

A pre-trial conference has been set for May 20, and a jury trial scheduled for June 4. Mills waived his right to a speedy trial.

To avoid any conflict of interest, the prosecution of the case was transferred from the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office to the Washington County Attorney’s Office.

Mills has been placed on leave by the department.
