Fairfield High School cheerleader Abyni Garner, left, seeks shelter from the rain behind fellow cheerleader Tori Van Skicke during Friday’s varsity football game against Keokuk. Rain ruined the homecoming parade earlier that day, and it has scarcely stopped raining since. The city of Fairfield’s Wastewater Department reported that the area received 4 inches of rain in a three-day period, causing sanitary sewer overflows of about 670,000 gallons on Sunday and Monday. The area got another 0.9 inches of rain Tuesday. The city is remodeling its wastewater treatment facility to reduce sanitary sewer overflows caused by heavy rains.
